Likhai Marinduque, the very first culture and arts festival in the MIMAROPA region, kicked off on Friday, November 10, 2023, across the province of Marinduque.
Hundreds of artists, students, and other art enthusiasts from around the province and nearby cities and municipalities gathered for the three-day festival. The event hosted various workshops on painting, songwriting, content creation, poetry, theatre, and other art forms. In addition to this. Likhai also showcased cultural performances, art exhibits, and film showing activities.
Organized by the Provincial Government of Marinduque, Likhai fortifies the initiative of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) MIMAROPA to bolster the creative industries in the region. The event also advocates for the preservation and celebration of the multicultural heritage in Marinduque.
According to the preliminary findings from the profiling survey conducted by DTI Marinduque, approximately 700 individuals have been identified as members of the creative industry. The respondents belong to the different creative domains, namely Audio Visual Media, Digital Interactive Media, Creative Services, Design, Publishing and Printed Media, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Traditional Cultural Expressions, and Cultural Sites.
“To be able to sustain the creative industry, you must bind with the individuals you share the same passion with, and I encourage you all to be part of the creative industry triangle – composed of artists, entrepreneurs, and supporters. In this manner, your creative juices and ideas shall be transformed into cultural goods,” says DTI MIMAROPA OIC-Regional Director (RD) Rodolfo Mariposque during the closing ceremony on Sunday, November 12, 2023 in Boac, Marinduque.
The DTI has established an Integrated Industry Development for Creative Industries to provide a strategic direction for the development of the Philippine Creative Industries.
OIC-RD Mariposque said in a statement that the culture and arts festival is part of the groundbreaking efforts of the region in developing the creative industries in MIMAROPA. ♦
