In the heart of Bintakay, Mogpog, Marinduque, a group of talented women come together as the Bintakay Nito Weavers Association (BINWA) headed by Cristina Genotiva, to weave intricate designs and create beautiful handmade items using a unique material – the vine/twigs from an endemic plant called Nito. These skilled artisans have mastered the art of weaving, passing down traditional techniques from generation to generation. Each piece they create tells a story of their rich cultural heritage and deep connection to the land.
BINWA is more than just a weaving group- it is e community of women who support each other, share their knowledge, and empower one another. Through their craft, they are able to generate income for themselves especially during their participation on DTI’s local trade fair and on MIMAROPA Naturally in the region. BINWA were able to attend as well on trainings like Entrepreneurial Mind Setting, Logo-making Branding, and various Productivity Seminars conducted by DTI Marinduque Provincial office.
From bags to souvenir items to customized pieces, the creations of BINWA are not just products, but works of art that showcase the beauty of Marinduque and the craftsmanship of its people. Every item is carefully crafted with love and dedication, making it a truly special and unique piece to own. ♦
