Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 10, in partnership with Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc., convened the logistics stakeholders in Northern Mindanao for a Logistics Cluster Consultation Meeting on May 24, 2024 at the Mallberry Suites Business Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

The stakeholders from the six key subsectors—cold storage, customs brokerage, sea & air shipping, freight forwarding, trucking, and warehousing—gathered to discuss the region’s logistics capabilities and the challenges and opportunities faced by the Northern Mindanao logistics cluster.

In his welcome message, DTI Region 10 OIC-Regional Director Ruel Paclipan talked about revisiting the issues and concerns in logistics and developing strategies to make the logistics cluster in the region globally competitive.

“When costs go down, there is higher profit margin for the business sector and on the part of consumers, lower prices of basic commodities.” RD Paclipan said as also discussed about the benefits of improving the efficiency of the logistics cluster.

On the other hand, Mr. Ruben Vegafria, regional governor of Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)-Northern Mindanao, emphasized the value and importance of creating a logistics cluster in Northern Mindanao, especially as Cagayan de Oro City is poised to become the fourth metropolitan center in the Philippines.

“You can see how important logistics is not only for business but also for the development of the entire region.” Mr. Vegafria said.

“Logistics is the backbone of all businesses; it is one of the drivers of the economy.”

The meeting concluded with Mr. Erwin Bollozos, Chairman and CEO of Bollozos Trucking Corporation, elected as the president of the Northern Mindanao Logistics Cluster Core Group. ♦
