Lanao del Norte, Philippines—The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) joined in a series of turnover ceremonies under the Timbangan ng Bayan (TNB) program to select local government units (LGUs) in Northern Mindanao.
The turnover ceremonies were part of “Tamang Timbangan, Para Hindi Kulang” project, which provided branded, caged, five-kilo weighing scales to public wet markets in fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-class municipalities.
This project is spearheaded by Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC), together with the DTI Region 10, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and Department of Science and Technology.
As of February 2025, the TNB facilities, consisting of weighing scale and Timbangan cages, have been established in 10 public wet markets across Northern Mindanao.
These wet markets are located in Damulog, Bukidnon; Guinsiliban and Sagay, Camiguin; Linamon and Pantao Ragat, Lanao del Norte; Jimenez and Tangub, Misamis Occidental; and Lugait, Manticao, and Sagay, Misamis Oriental.
The provision of these weighing scales is part of DTI’s efforts to safeguard consumer rights and promote fair trade practices in the wet markets.
This initiative enables consumers to verify the accuracy of product weights and ensure they receive the correct amount of their purchased goods.
The Timbangan ng Bayan educates consumers on fair trade practices by displaying consumer rights and responsibilities in local dialects and providing contact details for filing complaints regarding weight discrepancies. ♦
