Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental – Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Misamis Occidental empowered students in the province with the Provincial Consumer Quiz Bowl 2024 at Asenso Misamis Occidental Sports and Cultural Center (AMOSACC), Lower Lamac, Oroquieta City on October 7, 2024.
The quiz bowl was organized in celebration of Consumer Welfare Month with the theme, “Be Smart, Assert Your Consumer Rights!”
The event aims to enhance consumer awareness and knowledge among young consumers, fostering responsible consumer behavior in the province.
Twenty-three students in Grades 9 or 10 from various schools in the province participated in the competition while learning about their rights and responsibilities as consumers.
Darel Shane B. Ocul from Ozamiz City National High School bagged the first place.
Meanwhile, Princezz Caril P. Tillo from Misamis Occidental National High School was declared the second winner while Ruvana Hyacinth C. Docoy from Bonifacio National High School won the third place.
DTI Misamis Occidental Provincial Director Luz G. Galda emphasized the importance of consumer education in today’s marketplace during her opening message.
“Let us remember that knowledge is our most powerful tool—helping us make educated choices, advocating our rights, and promoting practices that benefit both consumers and business alike,” PD Galda said.
The Provincial Consumer Quiz Bowl was one of the efforts of DTI Misamis Occidental to promote consumer education and advocacy within the community.
By engaging young minds in discussions about consumer rights, the DTI provincial office aimed to cultivate a generation of responsible consumers who can navigate the challenges of the marketplace. (by Rea Florida)♦
