Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Misamis Oriental, through the collaborative efforts and support from the Office of Cagayan de Oro Second District Congressman Rufus Rodriguez and Office of Vice Mayor Jocelyn Rodriguez, strengthens its commitment to consumer protection with the conduct of Bantay Presyo sa Barangay Forum in Chali Beach Resort, Cagayan de Oro City on May 27, 2024.
The Bantay Presyo sa Barangay Forum aims to empower the barangays on the consumer rights and responsibilities and engage them to be actively involved in the price and supply monitoring of basic necessities and prime commodities in their localities.
DTI-10 OIC-Regional Director Ruel Paclipan emphasized the importance of barangay captains and officials in safeguarding consumer rights during his rationale.
“Usa ra ato objective—to protect the ordinary consumer (We only have one objective).” OIC-RD Paclipan said. “Mag-una jud ta didto sa presyo. So unsa ang mga balaod nga dapat mahibal-an, unsa ang pamaagi pag-institutionalize sa maong mekanismo (We start with the price. What are the laws we need to know, how do we institutionalize these mechanisms).”
Cagayan de Oro Second District Congressman Rufus Rodriguez expressed his full support and thanked the presence of DTI-10 Regional Office, DTI Misamis Oriental, and barangay officials and participants in the forum.
“I hope that you will learn so much in this Bantay Presyo.” Congressman Rodriguez said during his message. “We wish that you are going to be able to learn so much here and help our people in the barangay by being able to monitor prices.”
Cagayan de Oro City Vice Mayor Jocelyn Rodriguez also echoed her appreciation to DTI Misamis Oriental for extending their expertise to the barangays.
The forum featured key topics on Consumer Rights and Responsibilities, Salient Features of Price Act, DTI Price Monitoring Scheme, and Bantay Presyo sa Barangay Scheme that were discussed by DTI Misamis Oriental Consumer Protection Division Chief Angelo Devero.
It was attended by 100 barangay captains, officials, and representatives. ♦
