Misamis Oriental – Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Misamis Oriental has received the approval for a ₱10 million project under DTI’s Shared Service Facilities (SSF) program from the SSF National Technical Committee on December 5, 2024.
In partnership with the Provincial Local Government Unit of Misamis Oriental, the project focuses on enhancing the processing of abaca fiber into high-grade fibers with Newtech Pulp Inc. as the target market.
This will help farmers mechanize abaca processing and earn the premium pricing available for high-grade abaca fibers.
The Provincial Local Government Unit of Misamis Oriental will be the cooperator of the project with Kabangasan-Mapua-Dahilig Arc Cooperative (KAMADA ARC MPC) as the main beneficiary.
Twenty-four farmer organizations across the first district of Misamis Oriental are also expected to benefit from the project.
The Abaca Mechanization Project was initiated by Misamis Oriental First District Congressman Christian Unabia.
This is in line with Congressman Unabia’s support to programs of the national government agencies in the agriculture sector, with abaca as one of the priority commodities.
The project is expected to deliver a transformative impact by providing stakeholders with access to modern fiber processing technologies, training programs, and market integration strategies.
It will additionally create jobs and contribute to the sustainable development of the local abaca sector in the province in Misamis Oriental. ♦
