Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Misamis Oriental, in coordination with the Province of Misamis Oriental, assisted the DTI Foreign Trade Service Corps. (FTSC) in their 2025 Planning Conference in Misamis Oriental on December 11-12, 2024.
With a focus on strengthening engagements with local stakeholders and exploring economic opportunities in the region, the two-day conference featured a series of consultations, facility visits, and networking activities.
This is in line with the FTSC’s mission to connect the province to the global market.
Led by DTI Assistant Secretary Celynne Layug and FTSC Executive Director Emmanuel Ang, the commercial attachés from various countries and trade-industry development specialists from FTSC first attended a briefing and consultation meeting at the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate.
This was followed by a group tour of key PHIVIDEC locators, including the Kirahon Solar Farm and the Mindanao International Container Terminal, highlighting the province’s potential as a hub for industrial investments.
The group additionally visited the First Community Cooperative (FICCO) Integrated Coconut Processing Facility, which emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships to bolster the region’s coconut industry.
Hosted by the Province of Misamis Oriental, the second day began with a visit to the silk worm production facility in Villanueva that showcased the innovative silk production processes and its potential for boosting the local textile industry.
The silk worm production facility is managed by the Department of Science and Technology Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST PTRI).
This was followed by a visit to the Misamis Oriental Provincial Agriculture Development Complex (MOPADC).
Discussions on this visit centered on Misamis Oriental’s economic profile and investment priorities and the ongoing projects and economic initiatives of the PLGU to achieve its goal for a single digit poverty incidence.
The sessions additionally showcased the province’s capacity for innovation and growth in agriculture, trade, and industry.
The visit also included a trip to Hiraya Farm Escape and a tour of Amaya View.
The 2025 Planning Conference concluded with a Governor’s Night.
The gathering emphasized the importance of unified efforts between national and regional stakeholders to position Misamis Oriental on the global investment map by supporting local industries and facilitating global linkages. ♦
