DTI releases price guide for school supplies | Department of Trade and Industry Philippines

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has released the Gabay sa Pamimili ng School Supplies on July 3, 2024.

Gabay sa Pamimili ng School Supplies is a price guide for consumers who will be buying school items in preparation for the new school year set to begin on July 29. It includes specific brands of notebooks (writing, composition, spiral, and yarn), pad paper (Grade 1-4 and intermediate), pencils, ballpoint pens, crayons, erasers, sharpeners, and rulers.

This year, prices of notebook ranges from P11.80 to P52.00 for writing and composition (80 leaves), P12.00 to P47.00 for spiral, and P12.70 to P42.00 for yarn.

Meanwhile, pad papers range from P9.50 to P61.00 for Grade 1-4 (80 leaves) and P13.80 to P48.75 for intermediate. Pencils per piece can be bought at P11.00 to P17.00 and per pack at P15.00 to P22.50. Ballpens per piece are at P3.00 to P21.00 while price range per pack (3 pieces) is from P8.00 to P33.00.

Price range for crayons is P12.00 to P114.00, depending on the colors per box; erasers are P4.50 to P20.00, sharpeners are P15.00 to P69.00, and rulers are P16.00 to P29.00.

Aside from the price guide, DTI also reminds consumers to check the proper labels of the products such as the brand name or trademark, name and address of the manufacturer, number of leaves in the paper or notebook, hardness symbol for pencil, and tip classification for ballpen.

Additionally, the number of crayons in a box should also be checked, as well as the “non-toxic” label to ensure that the items were checked and has passed the allowed toxicity level set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
