Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has expressed its support to the groundbreaking achievement of Iligan City that was marked by the launching of the Pakaradiya-an Festival and First Iligan Halal Trade Expo on July 23, 2024 at Robinsons Place Iligan, Iligan City.
The Pakaradiya-an Festival is a celebration of Iligan City’s cultural diversity. It is one of the strategic initiatives to propel the city’s Halal industry into the national and global stage.
The global Halal market is a burgeoning industry that offers a wide range of products and services that include food and beverages, cosmetics and personal care, pharmaceuticals, and even tourism.
Through the launching of the event, Iligan City is poised not only as a hub for Halal excellence but also contributes significantly to economic growth, job creation, and social cohesion within the community.
DTI Undersecretary Ana Carolina Sanchez conveyed the Department’s support in a message delivered during the launching of the event.
“The Pakaradiya-an Festival and First Iligan Halal Trade Expo are not just ordinary events. They are a testament to our commitment to embrace and celebrate our rich cultural heritage while propelling our Halal industry to new heights.” said Undersecretary Sanchez.
The theme, “Halal-friendly Philippines: Towards a Globally Competitive and Inclusive Industry,” underscores the strategic importance of the Halal sector in the national economic agenda. The initiative is aligned with the Philippine Halal Strategic Plan 2023-2028 and the Halal-friendly Philippines campaign, spearheaded by DTI; national government agencies; private sectors, particularly MSMEs; civil society organizations, academe, and other major players in the Halal industry.
Key highlights of the event included the induction of City Halal Industry Council, signing of the commitment wall, and a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing between the local government unit (LGU) of Iligan City and DTI to bolster the efforts in implementing Halal-friendly initiatives.
The event also featured music and dance performances, cultural exhibits, capacity building seminars, and the Halal Trade Expo where participating Halal-certified businesses displayed their Halal-friendly products.
It gathered stakeholders from government agencies; local government units; food processors, restaurateurs, tourism operators, and financial institutions from the private sector; civil society; academe; and other critical players who are essential in developing the Halal ecosystem in Iligan City.♦
