Department of Trade and Industry Misamis Oriental capacitated the Local Price Coordinating Councils (LPCCs) of 26 local government units (LGUs) in Misamis Oriental with a month-long LPCC-Learning through Exploration and Active Participation (LEAP) Roadshow on August 2024.
The LPCC-LEAP project aims to reactivate the reconstituted LPCCs to ensure the stability of prices and the supply adequacy of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPC) in Misamis Oriental, including Cagayan de Oro City. Through the project, the Councils are empowered by learning and understanding the powers and functions of the LPCC which will eventually lead to active participation in consumer protection-related activities.
By equipping the LPCC of the 3 cities and 23 municipalities in Misamis Oriental with the necessary tools and knowledge, the LPCC-LEAP has laid the groundwork for a more resilient and responsive system of price and supply monitoring. This ultimately safeguards the welfare of the consuming public and ensures that their basic needs are consistently met.
The Provincial and City Price Coordinating Councils, collectively referred to as LPCCs, are established as mandated by the implementing rules and regulations of RA 7581 or The Price Act.
Among its responsibilities include the monitoring of retail prices of BNPC, recommending price ceilings or suggested retail prices (SRP) to implementing agencies in The Price Act, strategizing efforts to stabilize prices and supplies, and crafting solutions to address unwarranted price increases and supply shortages.
