DAVAO CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 11 proudly wrapped up its CY 2024 Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) celebration by conducting the Regional Quiz Bee finals on October 28, 2024, at the NCCC Mall VP Atrium here. With the theme “Be Smart, Assert Your Consumer Rights!”, the month-long celebration aimed to empower consumers by promoting awareness of their rights and responsibilities.

Proclaimed through Presidential Proclamation No. 1098, series of 1997, CWM is celebrated annually to enhance consumer welfare and protection in the Philippines. DTI spearheaded the event by engaging the public, businesses, and local government units (LGUs) in activities emphasizing the importance of informed consumerism and responsible practices in the marketplace.

Throughout October, DTI 11 hosted various activities, including streamer displays, Coffee and Consumer Zumba, radio guest appearances, consumer education seminars, promotion of product standards’ law, Presyo Diskwento Caravan, stakeholders’ forum/symposium, trivia game series, and fun run, among others. These activities were designed to deepen consumer understanding of product standards, pricing practices, and data protection while also learning the eight basic consumer rights. Collaboration with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), consumer organizations, and LGUs further strengthened outreach efforts.

Aside from the regular price monitoring of basic necessities and prime commodities, DTI11 has been collaborating with the LGUs and market masters in the weighing scale calibration and consumer information drives inside the public markets. This is to ensure fair trade practices for the consumers to get the best value for money.
