The Second Quarter Provincial MSME Development (PMSMED) Council Meeting brought together a total of 23 stakeholders/members from the government, private, MSME, academe, women, and youth sectors, on 10 July 2024, to discuss strategies for sustaining Nueva Vizcaya’s impressive economic performance as one of the top fastest-growing provinces in the country.

The said meeting which was hosted by the Agrizkaya Cooperative Federation, was also held as part of the activities in celebration of the MSME Development Week 2024.

DTI R2 Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Director and Presiding Officer Atty. Michael B. Paggabao highlighted the crucial role of utilizing shared knowledge, resources, and support networks to foster sustainable growth and development.

Provincial Cooperative Affairs Officer and Co-Chairperson Juditte Asuncion expressed the same sentiment as she discussed the different initiatives of the Provincial Local Government Unit led by Governor Jose V. Gambito, in promoting and enhancing the local MSMEs, products, and industries of Nueva Vizcaya.

The discussions during the meeting mainly focused on leveraging local strengths and addressing potential challenges to continuously improve the province’s economic and investment performance.

The Philippine Statistics Authority represented by Mr. Errol Lazo, presented the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) highlighting the factors that contributed to Nueva Vizcaya’s rank as the 2nd fastest-growing province in the country. This included the growth rates and shares of the different industries, the Per Capita GDP, Nueva Vizcaya’s economic performance vis-à-vis other provinces in Region 2, and the statements from the Provincial Planning and Development Office regarding the figures, among others.

Moreover, DTI R2 NV CMCI Focal Person Silvester T. Miguel also shared the province’s performance, as well as the different LGUs, in the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) Survey. The CMCI is considered the most comprehensive tool for measuring the competitiveness and investment readiness of cities/municipalities and provinces.

As agreed by the council members, an internal Technical Working Group will also be created to involve the agencies and institutions in the data validation for the said surveys and/or tools. The members also committed to assisting with the data gathering and suggested initiatives to address the areas and/or industries where the province is lacking.

The DSWD was also given the opportunity to present their livelihood programs, which led the council to vote for their inclusion as one of the regular members.

DTI NV PD Paggabao also presented the salient features of the proposed Barangay Micro Business Enterprise (BMBE) Ordinance, which received full support and endorsement from the council members.

Moreover, DTI NV BDD Chief Lenore Lee S. Lopez shared the results of the province’s coffee champs in the 2024 Philippine Coffee Quality Competition (PCQC), wherein the three participants garnered the highest ratings for their products with zero to minimum defects.

The meeting ended with DTI NV PD Paggabao encouraging the members to show their support for the MSME Development Week 2024 Celebration by conducting various activities. SB Corporation’s Provincial Coordinator Lovely Pimentel shared that they will be holding a financial roadshow on 17 July 2024.
