The Department of Trade and Industry Region 2 – Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Office, in partnership with the Provincial Local Government through the Nueva Vizcaya Watershed Management Committee – Operations and Coordination Unit (NVWMC-OCU) conducted a 2-day Technical Consultation/Training on Bamboo Industry Development on 07-08 May 2024 in Quezon and Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya, respectively.
The activity aimed to support the promotion of the bamboo industry in the province, advocate climate change mitigation initiatives, increase livelihood opportunities, and develop community-based bamboo industries with sustainable raw materials.
Forester Henry P. Patricio, Chief of the NVWMC-OCU, served as the resource speaker of the 2-day technical consultation/training. He highlighted the importance of ensuring the quality of bamboo by adopting proper propagation techniques.
This initiative will strengthen the convergence efforts of agencies and the private sector to promote bamboo development activities along the value chain of bamboo production, which includes the establishment of bamboo nurseries, plantation along riparian, watershed, and other areas, collection, processing, and trading.
The activity was facilitated by STIDS Mark Ponce from the DTI R2 Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Office.
Also present were Fernando S. Araan, Zenny Jane C. Felix from the NVWMC-OCU, Mr. Joseph A. Copeña, MENRO Aritao, and the officers and members of the Buliwao MPC and the Local Government Unit of Aritao.
