In celebration of National Bamboo Month, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2 – Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Office, in partnership with the Provincial Local Government Unit of Nueva Vizcaya and key bamboo industry stakeholders, convened the Provincial Bamboo Industry Development Council Meeting on 10 September 2024 in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.

The meeting was attended by a total of 40 participants coming from the PLGU, MLGUs, bamboo associations, and other partner agencies.

With a focus on advancing the bamboo industry’s bright future, the meeting laid out interventions to boost its growth and sustainability. It also served as preparation for the upcoming World Bamboo Day on 18 September 2024, themed “Buhay-Kawayan: Haligi ng Industriya’t Kalikasan, Pag-asa sa Kinabukasan.” One of the event’s main highlights is a nationwide bamboo planting activity, underscoring bamboo’s pivotal role in ecological conservation and economic empowerment.

DTI NV Provincial Director Atty. Michael B. Paggabao, represented by BDD Chief Lenore Lee S. Lopez served as the presiding officer of the meeting. During the activity, the members presented their accomplishments and updates on the activities and projects implemented on the promotion of the bamboo industry in the province.

The participants highlighted their significant contribution to promoting the bamboo industry and advocating climate change mitigation, increasing livelihood opportunities, and developing community-based bamboo industries with sustainable raw materials.
