With the shared vision of fostering inclusive growth and sustainable development, DTI R2 Batanes, led by Provincial Director Ellerie Mila G. Ramel, shared insights on the business environment and enhancement of Ivatan talents at the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT)’s Enhanced Institutional Development Workshop for Batanes on 18 July 2024 at the Human Resource Training Center (HRTC), Provincial Capitol, Basco. This initiative, under the ICT Industry Development Bureau of DICT, is made possible with the strong commitment of Undersecretary Atty. Jocelle Batapa Sigue and unwavering support of DICT Region 02 – Cagayan Valley Director Engr. Pinky T. Jimenez to ensure that Batanes is not left behind in the digital age.
PD Ramel expressed the agency’s support to DICT’s programs saying, “In Batanes, we recognize the immense potential of the ICT sector to drive economic development, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for our people. This initiative by the DICT provides us with a unique opportunity to showcase our local talent’s capabilities, our infrastructure’s resilience, and our region’s attractiveness as a competitive IT-BPM destination.”
In preparation for Batanes as a smart island, one of the initiative’s key components is identifying the province’s resources in terms of talent, infrastructure, cost, and business environment, alongside crafting strategic plans. Three groups presented their roadmaps for these identified categories, which will serve as essential tools for the future ICT Council to guide the development and implementation of smart island initiatives effectively. These presentations align the province’s capabilities with its vision of becoming a technologically advanced and economically sustainable community. The ICT Council will utilize these roadmaps to ensure that Batanes leverages its unique strengths while addressing gaps, ultimately fostering an environment conducive to innovation and growth.
PD Ramel was joined by Business Development Unit Head Liz Minerva F. Raterta and Information Officer and Social Media Account Manager Shane Karenza Alexia B. Horlina. Also present in the activity were Basco Sanggunian Bayan Committee Chairman on Information and Communication Hon. Francisco Castillo, Sabtang Mayor Hon. Prescila Babalo, Itbayat Vice Mayor Hon. Ferdinand G. Asa, and representatives from the Department of Education (DepEd), Batanes State College (BSC), and Saint Dominic College (SDC).
