Cabarroguis, Quirino — The Cagayan Valley Bamboo Industry Development Council (CVBIDC) conducted its 1st semester meeting on 10 June 2024, at the Quirino Watersports Complex in Cabarroguis, Quirino.
The said event, which was attended by around 70 participants from CVBIDC members, Provincial Government of Quirino representatives, and Quirino Provincial Bamboo Council members, commenced with a bamboo planting and tour at the Quirino Bamboo Eco-Park, led by Forester Estrella Pasion, head of the Quirino Provincial Natural Resources and Environment Office (PNREO).
“We realized the importance of bamboo in promoting tourism,” said Mr. Elmor Villaruel, Executive Assistant to Quirino Governor Dakila Cua, during his welcome message as he highlighted the province’s two pillars of development: agro-industrial development and tourism.
Moreover, Mr. Villaruel mentioned that the PLGU is expanding its bamboo eco-park and establishing a bamboo corridor. In addition, Governor Cua has instructed the PLGU to identify areas for establishing bamboo forests to serve as tourist destinations and reliable sources of raw materials for bamboo products.
“This event represents a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to develop the bamboo industry in our region. By reviewing our accomplishments, we can explore future opportunities and celebrate our successes,” said DTI Acting Regional Director and Council Chair, Mr. Winston T. Singun, who expressed his gratitude to Governor Cua for hosting the meeting and promoting the bamboo industry in the province.

1. Inventory and Database Management System Project in Cagayan
2. Status of Bamboo Plantations in the Region
3. Bamboo Textile Fiber Innovation Hub (BTFIH) in ISU Cauayan City
4. Regional Yarn Production and Innovation Center (RYPIC)
5. Opportunities for Bamboo as a Construction Material and Cement-Bamboo Frame Technology
6. Bamboo Plantation and Corn Silage Production for Environmental Protection and Poverty Alleviation Project.
In conclusion, during her synthesis, DTI Quirino Provincial Director Mary Ann C. Dy emphasized the vast possibilities available for adoption by the council, the province, or individual government agencies. PD Dy also expressed her optimism that the meeting will spur industry momentum and pave the way for making Region 2 a major player in the Philippine bamboo industry. ♦
