The Department of Trade and Industry Region 2 joins the nation in the celebration of National Flag Day as all of its Provincial Offices in Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Cagayan, Quirino, Batanes and Regional Office conduct the ceremonial flag raising and “Pagpupugay sa Watawat” in their respective areas.

National Flag Day is celebrated every 28th of May, commemorating the day of the Battle of Alapan, the first military victory of Emilio Aguinaldo after his return from exile in Hongkong.  In Philippine history, it was a decisive victory which led to the raising of the Philippine flag for the first time in Imus, Cavite.

National Flag Day is observed nationwide by virtue of of Republic Act No. 8491, the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines wherein for the 15 day period starting 28 May to 12 June, the national government encourages every Filipino to display the Philippine flag in their homes, establishments, vehicles and other public places to commemorate the heroes who fought for our independence and freedom.

DTI Batanes

DTI Batanes, in its mission not only to serve the Filipino but also to uphold the nation’s mandates, the staff of the Batanes Provincial Office conducted a National Flag Day Programme. At exactly 8 o’clock in the morning, the National Anthem was sung by the staff while the National Flag was being raised. This was followed by a recitation of the Panunumpa sa Watawat and, highlighting the event, was a salutation or Pagpupugay, expressing that the Philippine National Flag is a symbol that deserves respect and attention.

The salutation is a manifesto of the Salute to the Clean Flag Movement  which aims to “spark renewed respect and love for the Philippine flag through the reeducation of the private sector in proper and visible flag management.

DTI Regional Office and Cagayan

DTI Cagayan and the Regional Office jointly held a program in observance of National Flag Day. Bottom left photo shows Assistant Regional Director deliver a message about reverence and respect for the flag and other national symbols embodying the national ideals and principles of sovereignty and national solidarity.

DTI Isabela

OIC – Provincial Director Winston T. Singun,leads the flag raising ceremony during the National Flag Day celebration at the DTI Isabela Provincial Office. Part of the ceremony was the recitation of the  “Pagpupugay” a short narration provided for the Movement Salute to a Clean Flag initiated by the Pronove Tai International Property Consultants. The salutation is a manifesto of the Salute to the Clean Flag Movement  which aims to “spark renewed respect and love for the Philippine flag through the reeducation of the private sector in proper and visible flag management.”

DTI Nueva Vizcaya

 A flag-raising ceremony was held at 8:00 a.m. at DTI Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Office, spearheaded by their Provincial Director Henry O. Conel, Jr., to officially kick off and celebrate the 15-day period for the National Flag Days of the Philippines.

 DTI Quirino

More than the love of country endowed by DTI-Quirino in each day of their lives – a strong spirit of patriotism was beheld by the staff with the leadership of PD Ma. Sofia G. Narag during the “Pagpupugay” Salute to a Clean Flag on May 28, 2019 in celebration of the National Flag Day.  Summing up the “Pagpupugay”, PD Narag highlighted in her message that as employees of the government, we should love our country the best way we can. Because by loving our country, we become passionate in doing our job.
