The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Office led by Provincial Director Atty. Michael B. Paggabao began rolling out the campaign for more incentives for micro-enterprises in the province as the team met with Mayor Benigno Calauad of the Local Government Unit of Bagabag on 23 July 2024, to discuss the adoption of the Barangay Micro Business Enterprise (BMBE) Ordinance.

This initiative aims to bolster the formalization and registration of micro-enterprises, which make up 90.54% of the country’s total enterprises. By adopting the proposed ordinance, which builds on the BMBE Act of 2002, local government units (LGUs) can grant essential tax incentives and benefits to these small businesses.

This, in turn, will help fuel economic growth and enhance the local business environment. PD Paggabao highlighted the critical role of micro-enterprises, describing them as “seedbeds of Filipino entrepreneurial talent and generators of income and employment.”

He expressed optimism that Bagabag will join the growing number of LGUs supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through the implementation of the ordinance.

Mayor Calauad expressed his strong support for the campaign, recognizing the significant benefits it will bring to the local economy.

Also present during the activity were CTIDS Lenore Lee S. Lopez, CTIDS Rowena F. Mayangat, SBC/TIDA Jannyn N. Lafeguera, Technical Assistant Jan Christopher Decoro, and JBC Precious Mae Marzan from DTI R2 NV; and Municipal Treasurer Janette Santiago, BPLO/ LRCO I Jendy Pontillas, and RCC III Marcelo Valdez Jr. from LGU Bagabag. ♦
