Isabela, Philippines — In a concerted effort to stabilize the prices of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs) across Isabela, the Local Price Coordinating Councils (LPCC) of Alicia, Aurora, and Quezon convened on June 14, June 24, and June 25, respectively. These meetings, facilitated by the Consumer Protection Division of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Isabela, aimed to recalibrate the councils’ efforts in ensuring fair and stable pricing within their municipalities.
During the meetings, DTI Isabela’s Consumer Protection Division presented the salient features of Republic Act No. 7581, known as the Price Act. This legislation outlines the roles and functions of the LPCC in maintaining the stability of prices and the supply of basic commodities, particularly in times of calamities and natural disasters.
Key discussions revolved around the establishment of Price Action Teams, which will be responsible for regularly monitoring the status of prices and the supply of commodities in their municipalities. One of the significant steps identified by the councils includes the conduct of Joint Operation Timbangan, an initiative aimed at ensuring that weighing scales used in marketplaces are accurate and fair, thereby protecting consumers from fraudulent practices.
The LPCC members agreed to undertake these initial steps as part of a broader strategy to ensure that the prices and supply of BNPCs remain stable in Ramon and other areas, especially during emergencies. By reinforcing these measures, the councils aim to protect consumers and ensure equitable access to essential goods.
These meetings mark a proactive approach by the LPCCs of Alicia, Aurora, and Quezon in response to the challenges posed by fluctuating market conditions and potential disruptions caused by natural calamities. ♦
