Jones, Isabela—  In a concerted effort to empower vulnerable sectors and promote fair market practices, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Isabela Provincial Office, through its Consumer Protection Division and Jones Negosyo Center, successfully conducted two significant activities aimed at enhancing community welfare and economic stability in Jones, Isabela, on 27 June 2024.

Under the banner of Project MOVE (Making Our Vulnerable Empowered), a pioneering initiative aimed at educating and empowering senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) on their legal rights and entitlements, the forum gathered 33 participants from the senior citizen community. TIDS Mr. Mark Jayson S. Andes delivered insightful sessions focusing on the rights and privileges guaranteed by law to senior citizens and PWDs. Moreover, the event included a needs assessment aimed at identifying pressing issues faced by these sectors, intending to coordinate efforts with other agencies and private entities for comprehensive support.

As a progressive step forward, a forthcoming forum with local business establishments is planned to raise awareness about honoring the rights and privileges of senior citizens and PWDs within the community.

Simultaneously, a Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) meeting was conducted to reinforce efforts in upholding fair pricing practices within the municipality. Led by STIDS Mr. Lovell Mark C. Campania, council members delved into the essential provisions of Republic Act No. 7581, also known as the Price Act. During the meeting, council members agreed upon joint monitoring efforts to ensure that basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs) remain affordable and accessible, especially during emergencies. Moreover, agreements were reached to enhance public market transparency through timely updates of the Price Bulletin Board.

Both activities underscore the DTI Isabela Provincial Office’s unwavering dedication to promoting consumer welfare and empowering marginalized groups in Isabela. By equipping senior citizens and PWDs with knowledge of their rights and ensuring fair pricing through collaborative governance, these initiatives pave the way for a more inclusive and economically resilient community.
