Tuao, Cagayan— The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2 Cagayan, in collaboration with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tuao, conducted a series of consumer-focused initiatives on 23 April 2024 at Tuao West Gymnasium, Tuao, Cagayan.

Under the leadership of Hon. Mayor William N. Mamba, represented by Mr. Frederick Baligod, Municipal Administrator, the event drew participation from various stakeholders, including members of the LPCC-Tuao. The collective aim was to strengthen the Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC), fostering an environment conducive to both business growth and consumer protection.

Ms. Tessie Guiterring, from the Consumer Protection Division, spearheaded discussions on crucial topics such as the Price Act’s salient features, LPCC composition, and the formulation of a two-year action plan. Deliberations also included the implementation of Privilege Discounts in Priority Sectors, particularly benefiting Senior Citizens/Persons with Disabilities (PWD), to establish a clear parameter for privilege utilization.

Furthermore, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) team conducted an orientation on the PalengkeQR Plus PH, introducing a digital payment platform designed to reduce reliance on physical currency, thereby enhancing transaction efficiency.

Representatives from the Small Business Corporation (SBCorp) and the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) elucidated their respective programs tailored for qualified Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), aiming to foster local enterprise growth.

In the afternoon session, stakeholders engaged in discussions on Business Ethics and received guidance on identifying genuine Philippine currency. Additionally, the SBC Financing Program, customized for market vendors and other business stakeholders in Tuao, was explored. The collaborative efforts between DTI Cagayan and LGU Tuao underscore a shared commitment to promoting consumer welfare, facilitating business growth, and fostering inclusive economic development within the municipality. ♦
