The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) R2 Batanes and the Provincial Government of Batanes (PGB) awarded two units of Vegetable Chillers to the Chanarian-Tukon Farmers Association, 30 August 2024, at the Farmers and Fishermen’s Market of Batanes (FFMB). The equipment was provided under DTI’s Shared Service Facility (SSF) Program, one of DTI’s flagship programs aimed at addressing gaps in the productivity and operational efficiency of small entrepreneurs through technology. The PGB was identified as the Program Cooperator while the Chanarian Tukon Farmers Association was the identified beneficiary and operator of the SSF.
Provincial Governor Hon. Marilou Horlina Cayco, in expressing her gratitude on behalf of the PGB and the people of Batanes said, “Ang DTI ang isa sa masipag at aktibong kaagapay ng ating lokal na industriya. Ang food sufficiency program ay isa sa aking pangunahing adbokasiya at programa na nagnanais na masiguro na may sapat na pagkain at masigurado na walang magugutom dito sa Batanes.”. Governor Cayco underscored the value of collaboration in enhancing local agriculture and trade.
The association, the designated beneficiary of this initiative, received equipment worth Php 500,000, which includes two fruit and vegetable chillers, one heavy-duty digital weighing scale, and one manual weighing scale.
The awarding ceremony coincided with the regular conduct of the Kadiwa ng Pangulo and was attended by Provincial Agriculturist Cesar Doroteo V. Hostallero, Provincial Administrator Justinne Jerico H. Socito, Provincial General Services Officer Eduardo H. Delfin, Chanarian-Tukon Farmers Association President Ms. Aurelia C. Atunay and its members, Batanes Meat Handlers Association President Edna Alina and its members.
