In a proactive move to ensure fair market practices and safeguard Quirinian consumers’ interest against unreasonable price changes, DTI R2 Quirino’s monthly monitoring activity aimed at assessing the price and supply situation of Basic Necessities and Prime Commodities (BNPCs) as well as Construction Supplies was conducted on 21-22 February 2024 in the different municipalities of the province.
The monitoring team visited 19 major retail outlets in the municipality, ensuring that accurate and up-to-date information was gathered, and that would be utilized for in-depth analysis, enabling the team to make informed decisions and decisive effective strategies for stabilizing the price and supply situation in the province.
It was revealed that there were no significant changes in the prices of BNPCs and supply of hardware items are sufficient.
According to Ms. Amira J. Aliado, Trade Industry Development Analyst, there is sufficient supply of basic necessities like canned sardines, processed milk, powdered milk, coffee, laundry soap, loaf bread, instant noodles, bottled water, and candles.
Furthermore, seven (7) business firms were visited to evaluate their compliance with the Department Administrative Order No. 17-08, s. 2017 or the Implementing Guidelines on the grant of Bagwis award to business establishments that uphold consumer rights and interests and practice business ethics.
DTI R2 Quirino likewise reminded the business owners to strictly comply with the different Fair Trade Laws to ensure that Quirinian markets are free from unconscionable trade practices.
