DTI R2 Batanes successfully conducted a Consumer Advocacy Initiative focused on the implementation of the Vape Law (RA 11900) at the DTI R2 Batanes Provincial Office. This significant event brought together 11 representatives from various agencies, including the Department of Health (DOH), the Department of Education (DepEd), the Chief of Police (COP) of the six municipalities, and key business sectors involved in the sale of vape products.
During the activity, Consumer Protection Unit Head, Meryll A. Hortiz, provided an in-depth overview of RA 11900, also known as the Vape Law or the Vaporized Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Products Regulation Act. This law aims to regulate the importation, manufacture, sale, packaging, distribution, use, and communication of vaporized nicotine and non-nicotine products, ensuring public health and safety.
The activity featured a discussion where participating agencies outlined their specific roles and responsibilities within their respective jurisdictions. Collaborative strategies for monitoring and enforcement were crafted to ensure the smooth implementation of the law, thereby safeguarding both consumers and business owners.
One of the key outcomes of the initiative was a request from DepEd to extend the consumer advocacy efforts to the upcoming Balik Eskwela Diskwento Caravan, scheduled for 24-26 July 2024. This initiative aims to further educate and protect students and the general public as they prepare for the new school year.
The DTI R2 Batanes remains committed to promoting consumer protection and ensuring the proper implementation of the Vape Law across the province. This collaborative effort underscores the importance of inter-agency cooperation in achieving these goals.
