Claveria, Cagayan — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) R2 Cagayan Provincial Office successfully conducted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the Claveria Handicraft Association on 16 May 2024. This event marks a significant step in our ongoing efforts to support and enhance the abaca industry in Claveria.

Following the successful preliminary meeting on 18 April 2024, the FGD brought together key members of the Claveria Handicraft Association to discuss various DTI programs, activities, and initiatives aimed at fostering economic development within the local abaca sector. The collaborative discussions provided valuable insights and laid the groundwork for further strengthening the partnership between the LGU and DTI.

The FGD highlighted DTI’s commitment to providing comprehensive support for the abaca industry, including capacity-building initiatives, market expansion opportunities, and technical assistance. Association members actively participated in the discussions, sharing valuable insights and feedback from their experience. These inputs will help DTI to identify future initiatives tailored to their specific needs.

A key outcome of the FGD was the drafting of the 2024 Action Plan for the Abaca Industry, facilitated by Ms. Maricris Galinggana, Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist, and Ms. Alpha Jessica Paggabao, Provincial Focal Person for Wearables and Homestyle (W&H) Industry.

“We were impressed with the enthusiastic participation and constructive dialogue at this FGD,” said Ms. Cynthia Talattad, Chief of Business Development Division. “This engagement is vital as we work together to drive the growth of the abaca industry in Claveria, ensuring sustainable economic development for the community.”

DTI extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Claveria Handicraft Association and the LGU for their unwavering support and cooperation. ♦
