The Department of Trade and Industry R2 Cagayan Provincial Office and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Sto. Niño, Cagayan convened on 25 June 2024 for a collaborative initiative to enhance consumer protection and advocacy within the municipality.

Key activities included a focused group discussion (FGD) on the Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) 2-Year Action Plan (2024-2025) led by Mayor Atty Vicente G. Pagurayan, consumer education initiatives targeting priority sectors such as Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and business empowerment activities facilitated by the Business Enterprise Assistance (BEA) program.

DTI R2 Cagayan, represented by CTIDS Tess Guitering from the Consumer Protection Division, led discussions on the importance of consumer rights and making informed decisions. Ms. Guitering highlighted the need for consumers to understand their rights and responsibilities to ensure fair treatment in the marketplace. She provided practical tips on how consumers can protect themselves from fraudulent practices and emphasized the role of consumer education in promoting a safer and more transparent market.

On the other hand, Mr. Lester Bunagan, Account Officer from Small Business Corp, presented valuable information on financing opportunities available through the DTI Small Business Corporation (SBC). He explained how these opportunities could help local businesses grow. Mr. Bunagan also shared real-life examples of common investment scams and advised business owners on how to identify and avoid them.

Present during the event were SB Detilinda Carag, SB Romeo Uy, Secretary to the Sangguniang Bayan Jaylord Carodan, Market Supervisor Oliver Campano, Social Worker Officer III Marisal Dameg, and NC-JBC Donalyn Pinapin, all demonstrating their commitment to consumer advocacy and community welfare.

Through joint efforts, LGU Sto. Niño and DTI R2 Cagayan are set to launch awareness campaigns, consumer rights education programs, and mechanisms for resolving consumer complaints.
