In-house designers and product development and marketing officers of DTI R2 gained access and exposure to the latest market trends, designs, and innovations as they embarked on a learning visit to local trade fairs and top non-food retail stores in Metro Manila on 8-11 October 2023.

The trade promotions and product development officers of DTI R2 are tasked to assist MSMEs in enhancing their crafts through various interventions in the areas of design, branding, packaging, labeling, sensory, and product process. The learning visit enabled them to see the most recent design trends, innovations, material applications, technologies, and various indigenous resources used in homestyle and wearables. They also benchmarked on the best practices, procedures, problem-solving strategies, and business models of various businesses and organizations.

Among those visited by the team were the National Arts and Crafts Fair, Go Lokal Stores (Gil Puyat and Glorietta), DOST (Philippine Textile Research Institute), IKEA Philippines, Balikbayan Handicrafts, Bahandi Eastern Visayas Trade Fair of DTI Region 8, and side visits to Rustan’s Department Store, Kultura Store at SM Mall of Asia, Tesoro’s Philippine Handicrafts, and OTOP Hub Makati.

Moving ahead, the product development team will continuously work on developing export-quality products for the region, upgrading the MSMEs design and product execution capabilities, and aligning them not only with market trends and preferences but also with product standards and market entry certifications.
