DIDIPIO, KASIBU — With the goal of strengthening the partnership between both organizations, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2, led by Regional Director Leah Pulido Ocampo, visited OceanaGold Philippines – Didipio Mine on 04 July 2023, to meet the key officials and tour around their mining facilities.

The team first visited the Loom Weaving Shared Service Facility (SSF) Project located in Sitio Alayan, Capisaan, Kasibu, and met the local weavers who requested product development and marketing assistance, as well as training sessions on advanced loom weaving.

At the Didipio Mine, the team received a warm welcome from Mining Manager John Lean, Process Department Manager Raymond Sefiagani, External Affairs, and Communications Superintendent Desiree Baldevino, External Affairs Officer Jariel Sarac, Community Development – Livelihood and Social Enterprise Supervisor Vincent V. Flores, Communications Advisor Joseph Villaflor, and other staff members.

After a brief introduction and orientation on the safety rules, the DTI team was divided into two groups – one for the underground tour and the other for the surface tour.

During the tour, the team had the opportunity to learn about the different mining processes and immerse themselves in the actual mining operations by visiting the portals, mining trails and tunnels, mining site, refuge chambers, mine control area, process plant, tailing storage facility, and paste backfill facility, among others.

After the tour, a short session was held, wherein Ms. Desiree shared updates on the operations of the Didipio Mine. Both organizations also discussed and aligned their programs and activities geared towards sustainable industry and enterprise development. This includes Project Mun-abol, bamboo planting activities, the proper documentation of the company’s exports, the Youth Entrepreneurship Program for IP culture revitalization, the improvement of Kasibu’s Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index (CMCI) ranking, and consumer advocacy sessions, among others.

Aside from the team’s new learnings and experiences, RD Ocampo expressed her gratitude to the Didipio Mine for helping DTI unfold new opportunities to continuously make a difference in the lives of our fellowmen – an impact far more valuable and fulfilling than gold. ♦
