Isabela, Philippines— The Department of Trade and Industry Region 2 (DTI R2) Isabela is committed to aligning its programs, activities, and projects with those of each city and municipality within the province of Isabela. This approach aims to ensure a more synchronized implementation of initiatives to bolster the bamboo industry in the region.
On 19 June 2024, DTI R2 Isabela conducted a significant bamboo cluster meeting during the monthly gathering of the Isabela League of Local Environment and Natural Resources Officers (ILLENRO). The primary objective of this meeting was to provide an update on the status of the Provincial Bamboo Industry Development Plan for 2024. TIDS Emma Jane Domingo led the discussion, highlighting the accomplishments of the Bamboo Industry Cluster Enhancement Program up to May 2024. She also outlined the forthcoming activities tailored to the specific needs of each city and municipality within Isabela, including skills training on bamboo treatment, plantation management, propagation and nursery establishment, and contemporary handicrafts making, among others.
Ms. Domingo also shared the promising future of the bamboo industry in the province, driven by the operationalization of the Bamboo Fiber Innovation Hub in the City of Cauayan and the Regional Yarn Processing Innovation Center in the City of Ilagan. These cutting-edge facilities are set to revolutionize bamboo textile production and industrial applications, paving the way for significant advancements in the industry. As a result, they are expected to generate higher income and create numerous job opportunities, fostering economic growth and sustainability within the bamboo sector in the coming years.
MENRO Johann Ocampo, who serves as the Co-chair of the Isabela Bamboo Industry Development Council and is also the President of ILLENRO, placed significant emphasis on the Workshop on Crafting a Comprehensive Bamboo Industry Development Plan for all local government units (LGUs) in Isabela. MENRO Ocampo solicited opinions and suggestions from the participants regarding the workshop’s conduct. This initiative aims to empower LGUs with a strong foundation for implementing their respective activities related to the bamboo industry.
In summary, the meeting served as a platform for discussing progress, sharing achievements, and planning future activities to enhance the bamboo industry in Isabela. The collaborative efforts between DTI R2 Isabela, ILLENRO, and various LGUs are geared towards creating a unified and effective approach to industry development, ensuring that each locality can contribute to and benefit from the province’s overall growth in the bamboo sector.
