Isabela, Philippines — The Department of Trade and Industry R2 Isabela Provincial Office, in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Gamu, conducted a two-day Skills Training on Cassava Processing, along with sessions on Basics of Marketing and Product Packaging and Labeling, on 25-26 June 2024. The event took place at the LGU Gamu Compound, District 1, Gamu, Isabela, and was attended by fifteen (15) members of the Isabela Green Ladies Organization (IGLO) Gamu Chapter.
TESDA Assistant Professor Leona S. Cayapan led the first day of the training, focusing on cassava processing. Professor Cayapan enlightened the participants about the numerous benefits and important facts regarding cassava, followed by a comprehensive, hands-on demonstration of making various cassava-based products such as Cassava Cake, Cassava Espasol, Cassava Chips, Cassava Crackers, Pichi-Pichi, and Polvoron. This practical approach ensured that all participants could thoroughly learn and absorb the procedures and techniques involved.
The second day of the training featured a seminar on the Basics of Marketing and Product Packaging and Labeling. NC-SBC Frances Monique S. Peredo led discussions on marketing fundamentals, covering key concepts and effective strategies. TIDS Emma Jane Domingo delved into the fundamentals and importance of proper packaging and labeling, emphasizing their significant impact on consumer behavior and brand perception. Participants learned about designing attractive and functional packaging while ensuring compliance with labeling regulations.
The event culminated with a certificate awarding ceremony, recognizing the participants for their active engagement throughout the sessions. Municipal Administrator Xian-Al Defensor A. Galanza delivered a short closing message, emphasizing the continuity and sustainability of the venture, which will undoubtedly benefit the community of Gamu, Isabela.
The initiative, aimed at empowering IGLO members by equipping them with valuable skills to enhance their livelihoods and contribute positively to the community, was facilitated by SSF Technical Analyst Michael Angelo G. Larugal, Junior Business Counselor – Gamu Ma. Andrea S. Lagmay, and SSF Technical Assistant Geraldine L. Arellano.
This collaborative effort marks a significant milestone in empowering community members, particularly women’s groups, by providing them with advanced techniques, marketing knowledge, and valuable insights, thereby fostering economic growth and development within the municipality of Gamu. ♦
