With the goal of strengthening the partnership between both organizations, Team DTI R2 Nueva Vizcaya led by Provincial Director Atty. Michael B. Paggabao visited FCF Minerals Corporation in Runruno, Quezon on 15 July 2024 to meet their key officials and have a mine tour.

After a brief introduction and orientation on the safety rules, the DTI team began the mine tour. During the tour, the team had the opportunity to learn about the different mining processes, especially FCF’s best practices on environment rehabilitation, and immerse themselves in the actual mining operations by visiting the mining trails/site, viewpoints, and the Residual Storage Impoundment, among others.

After the tour, PD Paggabao and the team met with the key officials of FCF Minerals Corp., led by General Manager Lorne Harvey. Both parties discussed and aligned programs and activities geared towards sustainable industry and enterprise development, specifically under Project GOLD (Generating Opportunities for Livelihood Development).

Aside from assisting community-based organizations (CBOs), Project GOLD was initiated last year, with the main goal of creating a self-sustaining economy to guarantee the community’s independence, particularly beyond the mine life.

Among the topics discussed include the inclusion of FCF’s assisted CBOs, particularly ABEL RIPO in the program with Catalyste+ (formerly Canadian Executive Service Organization) on women empowerment; possible conduct of more capacity-building sessions; the status of interventions for the Ginger Processing of Golden Malilibeg Livelihood Association, Inc. (GMLAI); bamboo planting activities; the proper documentation of the company’s exports; other marketing interventions, especially on applying for the License to Operate from the FDA; and the establishment of a Pasalubong Center to showcase all the products of the CBOs, among others.

The team also visited FCF’s Information Center, which will house the Pasalubong Center, and pledged assistance in designing the proper cabinets and/or product showcase.

With PD Paggabao were BDD Chief Lenore Lee S. Lopez, TIDS Robelyn Mae Lising, TIDA-SBC Jannyn Lafeguera, and JBC Michael Angelo Laureta.

Beyond the team’s new insights and experiences, PD Paggabao expressed heartfelt gratitude to FCF Minerals Corporation for helping DTI strike gold through intensified collaboration and new opportunities. He emphasized that this partnership is part of DTI’s ongoing mission to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives—an impact far more valuable and fulfilling than gold itself.
