The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2 Nueva Vizcaya reinforced its commitment to advocating consumer rights and responsibilities by conducting another successful run of Project COMMUNICATE (Communicating Optimization Measures for MSMEs through Understanding Necessary Information on FTLs & Consumer-related laws; Advocating for complianT businesses & Empowered Consumers) cum Ride for a Cause on 28 July 2024 at Dupax Del Norte, Nueva Vizcaya. This event which was attended by over 100 riders, was held in collaboration with the Tagaligtas Riders Philippines (TRiP) Inc., one of DTI’s partner organizations in raising consumer awareness and protection.

Mayor Timothy Cayton, represented by Municipal Councilor Paulo Cayton, praised the riders for going beyond the fun of joyriding by initiating advocacies and charities that will benefit the community.

In her message representing DTI R2 NV Provincial Director Atty. Michael B. Paggabao, CPD Chief Rowena F. Mayangat emphasized the importance of being informed and proactive about consumer rights and responsibilities. She highlighted that the event was not only an opportunity to enjoy a ride with fellow enthusiasts but also a chance to make a positive impact on the community, foster camaraderie, and promote consumer awareness.

STIDS Aimee Garcia and CPD Technical Assistant Jonalyn F. Tan served as the resource speakers on Consumer Rights and Responsibilities, as well as the overview of the Bureau of Philippine Standards, outlining its role in standardization activities in the country.

Technical Assistant Tan also shared valuable insights into the dos and don’ts of purchasing products, guiding attendees on making informed choices.

On the other hand, STIDS Garcia discussed the importance of the Philippine Standards Mark (PS Mark) and the Import Commodity Clearance Mark (ICC Mark).

The topic focused on Automotive-related products under mandatory certification such as safety belts, child restraint systems, helmets and visors, safety glass for automotive, lead acid storage batteries, inner tubes for tires, speed limitation devices, tires for automotive vehicles, and motor vehicle brake fluids.

The event also featured a Ride for a Cause, where participants from Tagaligtas Riders Philippines Inc., SNCR, and other groups came together to support local charitable activities. This ride not only fostered a strong sense of community but also raised awareness about consumer protection.
