On 5 September 2024, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) R2 Regional Director Ma. Sofia G. Narag, CESO V travelled all the way to one of the farthest barangays in Quirino- Wasid, Nagtipunan to visit the Bugkalot tribe. RD Narag reached out to the officers of the Livelihood Association of Egongots (LAE) whose 40 members belong to the Bugkalot IP group.
The group turned their traditional arts and crafts as their source of livelihood particularly producing handmade culture-inspired fashion accessories, hand embroidered traditional clothes, and handwoven trays and mats made of pandan, rattan and nito.
Ms. Pelita Ramos, LAE’s President, conveyed to RD Narag their need for a common processing center where their members can stay to produce their various products. She also mentioned their need for additional capital and markets for their products. RD Narag committed to address their requests by linking them to funding source for their building requirements. Meanwhile, DTI will be provide LAE with package of interventions under its OTOP Next Gen Program and Shared Service Facilities Program.
She further affirmed the agency’s support for expanded market linkages and facilitate their participation to various trade fairs.
LAE was organized in 2023 by DTI R2 Quirino Negosyo Center JBC, Arnel Agustin. The association have been the recipient of DTI’s various programs such as: Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa (PPG) kits, Product Development, and Marketing Assistance to Padday na Lima Trade Fair, National Arts and Crafts, and 2023 Manila Fame.
