Tuguegarao, Cagayan — To upskill potential and would-be exporters in the region in enhancing their label development practices, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2, through its Product Development and Standards Unit, conducted a webinar on Label Development Based on International Standards of China, Dubai, Japan, and the USA via Zoom on 14 May 2024.

This is in line with the agency’s objective to improve MSMEs’ market readiness and strengthen their competitiveness in both domestic and global markets by understanding the intricacies of product labeling and standards and regulations in some influential markets around the world.

SME Development Division OIC-Chief Desiree Angolluan emphasized the importance of understanding the legal requirements and regulatory frameworks governing product labeling to improve export readiness and thrive in the global marketplace.

The discussions delved into the importance of packaging and label design, brand and trademark, the design of product labels for compliance with mandatory labeling requirements, and label requirements for food and non-food products. Samples of label designs for a foreign company client were also presented by Ms. Rhunafe Ruanto and Mr. Cyd Francis Recidoro of Blue Capuch Graphic Design Studio, the resource persons for the activity. More than 75 participants, composed of Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises, DTI R2 officers, food development program officers, and business counselors, took part in the activity and gained in-depth knowledge about international label standards and regulations. ♦
