Recognizing the talents and profound impact of women in shaping our communities, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) R2 Batanes joined hands with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in fostering women empowerment through its Digital Innovation for Women Advancement (DIWA) Program. This significant event was held last 19 July 2024, at the Human Resource Training Center (HRTC), Provincial Capitol, Basco, Batanes.
The DIWA Program, named after the Filipino word for “mind” or “spirit,” aims to leverage the power of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to promote gender equality and empower women while fostering an inclusive and sustainable digital future where women can actively contribute and thrive. During the session, DICT Usec. Jocelle Batapa-Sigue presented various digital tools and strategies designed to empower women in the ICT sector, covering key topics such as digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and innovation, providing attendees with practical insights and opportunities to network with industry leaders.
DTI is committed to collaborating with DICT to foster economic growth in the province and bridge the gap between men and women in the ICT industry. Through different DTI-initiated programs and partnerships with DICT and other stakeholders, the agency aims to equip women with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the digital landscape, enhancing their roles as active contributors to our local and national economies.
DTI R2 Batanes team is led by an empowered woman herself, Provincial Director Ellerie Mila G. Ramel, joined by Business Development Unit Head Liz Minerva F.
