Caluya, along with JBC Jones Jezreel Ramos and other MENRO staff, conducted a benchmarking activity at OceanaGold Philippines Inc. (OGPI) in Didipio, Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya, on June 29, 2024. This visit underscores LGU Jones’ dedication to enhancing the local bamboo industry through the adoption of advanced technology and best practices in bamboo propagation and nursery management.

Mr. Jojo Victorio, the Environment Advisor at OGPI, played a crucial role during the visit by showcasing OGPI’s sophisticated bamboo propagation methods. This included insights into their use of specialized fertilizers and growth hormones aimed at enhancing bamboo survival rates. Additionally, the team was introduced to OGPI’s nursery infrastructure, designed to foster healthier bamboo planting materials.

Building on the success of this visit, plans are now in motion to expand bamboo nurseries and plantations within Jones. Key among these plans is the establishment of a Bamboo Learning Center, which will serve as a hub for knowledge exchange and skill development. Comprehensive training programs are also on the agenda, tailored for local farmers and entrepreneurs in Jones, Isabela. These initiatives are anticipated not only to bolster the growth and sustainability of the local bamboo industry but also to catalyze economic development by generating new job opportunities within the community.
