After its successful first foray in the Japanese market in 2023, the Quirino Province’s ube powder, under the brand JaBes from the Quirino Young Entrepreneurs Association (QYEA), continues to chart history as it makes its way for the third time to this lucrative market with another batch of five hundred (500) kilos.
This was made possible through a strengthened convergent efforts between the DTI R2, DTI Quirino Provincial Office, QYEA, Quirino State University, the Provincial Government of Quirino, and the Department of Agriculture (DA)-Cagayan Valley Integrated Agricultural Laboratory.
With the help of experts in the fields of design and food technology, the Jabes ube powder underwent a rigorous year-long product development process aimed at making it high-quality and export-ready, including a thorough evaluation of branding, packaging, labeling, quality standard certification, and sensory and product processes.
Meanwhile, the DTI R2 and DARF02 have joined forces to ensure the sustainability of raw material supply particularly of the Ube Kinampay variety, which is preferred by the Japanese market, and are currently working to expand Kinampay plantations in more municipalities of Quirino as well as look into possible alternative areas in Nueva Vizcaya.
