The new Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) R2 Regional Director, Ma. Sofia G. Narag, CESO V, reconnected with the leaders and industry stakeholders in Quirino Province. On 4 September 2024, she met with Mayor May Garnace Calaunan, Mayor Jerry Pagbilao, and Mayor Jerry Agsalda of the municipalities of Diffun, Saguday, and Aglipay respectively.
They have fruitful exchanges on various areas of collaboration in fostering MSME development and addressing the challenges of promoting accelerated industry development in the province.
During the meeting with Quirino State University (QSU) President, Dr. Hermenegildo Samoy, Jr, RD Narag stated that she looks forward to strengthening ties with Quirino State University (QSU) in areas of innovation and technology promotion through the various Shared Service Facility Projects of DTI- R2 and the academe such as the Coffee Cupping Laboratory and Ube Expansion SSF Projects. President Samoy and RD Narag have a walking tour of the different facilities of QSU Diffun from the Bamboo Research area, Coffee Shop, and Ube Powder and Rootcrops Processing Center.
She also had immersion and interfacing meetings with the officials of the Provincial Government of Quirino in charge of the Quirino Cattle Breeding Center, Provincial Veterinary Officer Dr. Marcelino Delson, and Mr. Leonardo Biagan of the Quirino Livelihood for Everyone (QLife) Project. The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) funded both projects under grant support. These projects are all geared to propel livelihood promotion and economic transformation in the province.
Furthermore, the proposed sites of Shared Service Facilities (SSF) Projects by DTI R2 Quirino for CY 2024, were visited by RD Narag like the Fruit Processing Facility Expansion Project and Ube Powder Processing Facility Expansion Project located at QLiFE Processing Center, Cabarroguis, Quirino and QSU Compound, Diffun, Quirino, respectively.
PCCI Quirino Chapter, headed by its President, Ms. Conchita Uy, and other chamber members together with Mr. Elmor Villaruel, Executive Assistant of Governor Dakila Carlo E. Cua of Quirino, discussed possible interventions to promote economic dynamism in the province during a luncheon meeting hosted by the Provincial Government of Quirino.
One of the highlights of RD Narag’s visit was her brief but meaningful meeting with John Hay Management Corporation Chairperson Junie Cua whose passion and visionary leaderships remains the same over the years.
The day one visit of RD Narag was capped off with interaction and showcase of talents of local creatives from the Municipality of Diffun headed by Mr. Francis Mar Gunayon, OIC Municipal Tourism Officer. LGU Diffun is one of this year’s beneficiaries of DTI under its SSF Program, specifically the Kailyan Creative Center.
RD Narag served as Provincial Director of DTI Quirino for more than six (6) years. In July 2024, she was appointed as Regional Director of DTI Region 2.
