Two cities and four municipalities in Cagayan Valley made it to the Top 20 in the recently concluded 2021 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) Survey that was participated in by around 1,600 Local Government Units all over the Philippines.

For the Component Cities category, Tuguegarao City and the City of Ilagan garnered the following rankings:

• Tuguegarao City (Component Cities category)
o 17th Overall Most Competitive LGU
o 6th Most Competitive LGU in Government Efficiency
o 13th Most Competitive LGU in Infrastructure
o 16th Most Competitive LGU in Resiliency

• City of Ilagan (Component Cities category)
o 11th Most Competitive LGU in Government Efficiency

Meanwhile, the municipality of Echague in Isabela under 1st-2nd Class Municipalities category, and the municipalities of Basco in Batanes, Rizal in Cagayan, and Saguday in Quirino under the 5th-6th Class Municipalities landed in the following rankings:

• Echague, Isabela (1st-2nd Class Municipalities category)
o 18th Most Competitive LGU in Resiliency

• Basco, Batanes (5th-6th Class Municipalities category)
o 4th Most Competitive LGU in Government Efficiency
o 7th Most Competitive LGU in Infrastructure

• Rizal, Cagayan (5th-6th Class Municipalities category)
o 17th Most Competitive LGU in Resiliency

• Saguday, Quirino (5th-6th Class Municipalities category)
o 12th Most Competitive LGU in Government Efficiency

CMCI is an annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities which measures the competitiveness of a local government in terms of four pillars as indicators: economic dynamism, which provides a glimpse on the vibrancy of local economy; government efficiency, which deals with compliance to government policies and standards; infrastructure, which ensures connectivity and stable expansion of industries; and resiliency, which focuses on the readiness and capability of LGUs to respond to shocks, disasters, and emergency. ♦
