Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines— The DTI R2 Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Office and the Nueva Vizcaya Agricultural Terminal (NVAT) Inc., successfully facilitated the food terminal visit of San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corporation, a business that provides glass, metal, paper, composites, plastics, and PET packaging products, on 15 May 2024.

The meeting started with an introduction of NVAT’s Profile facilitated by the Board of Director and Corporate Treasurer, Mr. Aivan Kurt B. Alfaro. It was followed by a presentation of NVAT Fresh by DTI R2 Nueva Vizcaya.

The agreements made during the meeting include the implementation on the use of crates with various dimensions for a more efficient and cost-beneficial crate system; the employment of the corporation’s leasing services for crates and palettes (both wooden and plastic); the consideration on the use of glass and lock caps for the juice products of NVAT’s Multi Fruit and Vegetable Juice Processing Facility; and the partnership on the provision of capacity building particularly on packaging.

The whole team also held a quick tour at the terminal’s marketing center to study their current crate system which includes examining crates usage from farm to end-user, including transportation, storage, and retrieval scenarios.

After NVAT, the whole team visited the DTI R2 Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Office for a meeting with Provincial Director Atty. Michael B. Paggabao. A brief presentation on the DTI Regional and Provincial Offices’ efforts on NVAT Fresh and Assessment on post-harvest handling study conducted by UPLB was held.

According to Ms. Cynthia H. Bernardo, Assistant Vice President and Group Sales Manager of San Miguel, aside from studying the crate system, the visit also aimed to evaluate the logistics, handling, and storage costs involved in the terminal’s present crates system; introduce a new vegetable crate design to establish an industry standard; and to offer different modes of payment for purchasing plastic vegetable crates.

The said visit was a result of the continuous market linkage of DTI, particularly the Supply Chain and Logistics Wholesale and Retail Trade Office led by Regional Operations Group Undersecretary Mary Jean Pacheco and DTI Region 2 led by Regional Director Leah Pulido Ocampo. Also present in the said activity were CTIDS Lenore Lee S. Lopez and TIDS Silvester Miguel from DTI; Ms. Anna Ledesma, Mr. Manley Miranda, Mr. Renzon Palardon, Ms. Aerell Ann Lestino, Ms. Denise Cadiz and Ms. Leanne Tan from SMYPC; and Ms. Realyn Castillo, Ms.Lailani C. Binbinon, Mr. Julio Basilian and some Marketing Department Staff from NVAT. ♦
