Nanay Loly’s Food Product Manufacturing
Negosyo Center Cabiao
“Lahat ng bagay ay dapat pinag-iisipan at inaaral hindi lang dapat gustong magnegosyo at kumita dapat ay may background ka o may alam dahil ito iyong magbibigay sa iyo ng tagumpay upang maging maulad ang negosyo. Iconsider and place na pagtatayuan ng negosyo, ang presyo ng produkto/costing at kita, at panlasa ng tao. Kung kaya ay gumawa ng feasibility study.” This is what Michael “Mito” Torres, owner of Nanay Loly’s Food Products Manufacturing, advises to aspiring entrepreneurs.
Due to his mother’s passion in selling goods, Mito developed an early inclination towards entrepreneurship, selling anything that can earn money so that he will not be a burden to his parents. Then one day, his brother brought home a “sukang pinakurat”, a spiced type vinegar mixture. Unfortunately, the taste did not appeal to Mito’s taste buds. Drawing upon her background in Chemistry, having graduated from college with a major in the subject, Mito embarked on an experiment to concoct a unique blend of ingredients to enhance the flavor of vinegar, aiming to offer customers something distinct and appealing. He then came up with his signature mixture of sweet and sour vinegar and branded it “Sukang Kabyaw”. Mito then began selling his creation, initially within their neighborhood before expanding his market to include colleagues and students.
When he learned about the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Negosyo Center (NC) Cabiao, he asked for assistance on what will he do to his business and Trade and Industry Development Analyst (TIDA) Kanary Luth Velasquez explained all the services offered by the NC. In January 2023, he registered his business Nanay Loly’s Food Product Manufacturing at NC Cabiao. At first, he only earns about ₱1,200 per week selling 10 bottles of his vinegar at most. Through the guidance of TIDA Velasquez, Mito was able to expand his market, especially with the use of social media marketing.
He also became one of the beneficiaries of One Town One Product Next Gen (OTOP) of DTI Nueva Ecija. OTOP Ng is a program of helping MSMEs develop or improve their products through series of consultations and product development activities. The program helped Mito improved his packaging labels, making it more appealing to customers.
He was also able to join their town’s local trade fair in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija May 10 – 16, 2023, where he was able to earn ₱14,820.00. Before the end of 2023, he was also invited to join the Pre-Christmas Trade Fair at Gapan City which earned him ₱10,780.00 in sales.
From selling a meager 10 bottles of Sukang Kabyaw per week, Mito, with the help of DTI NC programs was able to increase his earnings to ₱24,000.00 or more per week with sales almost totaling to 200 bottles of vinegar. He now since expanded his business, acquired resellers, secured bulk orders and even distributed some as giveaways. Indeed, a sweet and sour taste of success for Sukang Kabyaw.
“Malaki ang pasasalamat ko sa DTI lalo na sa Negosyo Center Cabiao sa tiwala at encouragement lalo na sa aming maliliit na negosyante at nagsisimula pa lang. Nandyan sila para umalalay at sumuporta”. – Michael Torres
