DTI CALABARZON, BSP raise awareness on financial matters and combat money counterfeiting

Calamba City — The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Southern Luzon Regional Office, in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry CALABARZON, successfully conducted the “Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Information Caravan” at the iMall Canlubang, Calamba City, Laguna on February 22, 2024, from 1 pm to 5 pm.

The event aimed to raise awareness about financial matters and combat money counterfeiting in the region. BSP Regional Director Atty. Tomas J. Cariño Jr. highlighted the BSP’s unwavering commitment in disseminating crucial information and protecting the public from financial fraud and counterfeit schemes.

The caravan, part of the BSP’s Piso Caravan initiative, focused on educating attendees about various aspects of financial literacy, with a special emphasis on the Philippine Legal Tender Currency, the 1,000-Piso Polymer Banknote, and Digital Payments. The informative session catered to a diverse audience, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), DTI staff, consumer groups, and farmers.

“We believe that knowledge is a powerful tool in safeguarding our communities from financial threats. The Information Caravan serves as an opportunity for us to engage with the public and empower them with the necessary information to make informed financial decisions,” stated Cariño.

The collaboration with DTI CALABARZON added a multifaceted dimension to the event, ensuring a holistic approach to addressing financial literacy and counterfeiting concerns. Representatives from both DTI offices actively participated in the discussions and workshops, contributing valuable insights to the attendees.

The attendees had the chance to participate in interactive sessions, ask questions, and engage with experts from BSP and DTI.
