DTI-Laguna and CLDD Conduct Basic Pricing and Costing Seminar for Calamba MSMEs

Luisiana, Laguna — On March 7, 2024, the Cooperatives and Livelihood Development Department of Calamba City (CLDD), in partnership with the Laguna Provincial Office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-Laguna) through the Negosyo Center Program, conducted a seminar on basic pricing and costing cum consumer education to provide entrepreneurs with information on different factors needed to consider in terms of pricing, including various pricing strategies and appropriate costing to maximize profit as well as tips that may help them in business decision-making. It was attended by 38 potential and existing Calamba-based entrepreneurs comprising members of association and sole proprietors.

Ms. Angelica Fae Rodriguez, CLDD Cooperatives Development Specialist II, officially opened the program wherein she briefly discussed the upcoming events hosted by CLDD and other programs and assistance that their Department provides in support to entrepreneurs’ growth and development.

The topic Basic Pricing and Costing was presented by Ms. Rica Mae Ceria, Negosyo Center Business Counselor. Ceria discussed proper costing and pricing, different factors to consider in pricing products or services, and various pricing strategies. Moreover, a step-by-step tutorial on computation of manufacturing and operational costs such as raw materials, packaging supplies, labor, and overhead costs was thoroughly explained which allowed the participants to apply their learning during an activity involving costing and pricing of a product chosen by their group. Representatives presented their product including its total cost, selling price, and price margin as well as the challenges that they encountered during the costing process.

It was followed by a brief presentation of Negosyo Center Services and Consumer Education by Mr. Joel Nico Toriano, also a Negosyo Center Business Counselor. Toriano highlighted the different programs and services offered by Negosyo Center and consumer rights and responsibilities to raise business owners and consumers’ awareness.

The program ended with a closing remarks by Ms. Phoebe Cervantes, CLDD Product Development and Marketing Head, in which she expressed gratitude to the participants and invited them to join their hosted events (RMGCeria, DTI-Laguna). ♦
