San Pedro City — The Department of Trade and Industry – Laguna Provincial Office (DTI-Laguna) in partnership with the 1st Congressional District Office of Laguna successfully conducted the “Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP), You Can Be Your Own Boss (BYOB)! Capacity Building Training Workshop and Business Improvement Plan Presentation” on September 12, 13, and 17, 2024.
The training initiative aligns with the government’s economic agenda of addressing inequality and uplifting the quality of life of Filipinos, particularly empowering the youth to realize their potential as development partners.
Seventeen (17) young entrepreneurs took part in the event, which unfolded over 2 days (September 12 and 13, 2024) and covered 19 topics. The sessions were led by experts and business counsellors including Ms. Portia Sophia M. Cortezano, Ms. Avegail D. Agojo, Ms. Andrea Mae I. Macuha, Ms. Rica Mae E. Garcia, and Ms. Rica Mae G. Ceria. The training encompassed various modules, focusing on values, beliefs, business goals and vision, community business opportunities, prospective customers, business ideas and models, critical thinking, problem-solving, business operations, teamwork, employer-employee rights and responsibilities, business finance, resources, and pitching.
The two-day training was highly engaging, featuring role-playing of real-life scenarios, interactive games, and activities that kept participants interested. This approach created a fun and effective learning environment that encouraged active participation.
On September 17, 2024, the Business Improvement Plan session allowed each young entrepreneur to present their Business Model Canvas. Nine panelists from diverse sectors—including a retired Provincial Director, a Division Chief, and a Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist from DTI-Laguna, along with representatives from Arte Fashion, Yollie’s Food Products, Natures Dew Enterprises, SB Corporation, South Luzon Business, and a Domestic Sales Officer—provided constructive feedback and suggestions to enhance their business proposals.
This initiative underscores DTI-Laguna’s dedication to empowering young entrepreneurs by providing them with essential business knowledge and skills. Their ongoing commitment reflects a strong passion for fostering entrepreneurial growth in the region (LMMalabanan, DTI Laguna). ♦
