On July 30, 2024, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Quezon, in partnership with SICAP Quezon Agriculture Cooperative, conducted a seminar titled “From Bean to Box: Understanding the Art of Chocolate Making and Packaging & Labeling” at Mabilog Integrated Farm, Brgy. Ikirin, Pagbilao, Quezon. 

The seminar began with Mr. Arvin Jay Merto, SICAP Manager, guiding participants through the intricate process of transforming cacao nibs into cocoa liquor. Attendees also learned the essential steps of conching and tempering, which refine the texture and flavor of chocolate, ensuring a smooth and rich taste experience. A hands-on workshop provided an opportunity for participants to try their hand at tempering chocolate, adding a practical element to the theoretical knowledge shared. 

Following the chocolate-making workshop, Ms. Honeylee O. Eclavea of DTI – Quezon led a session on the fundamentals of packaging and labeling. She highlighted the critical role these elements play in marketing and preserving chocolate products. The discussion covered the importance of packaging design and functionality, emphasizing how effective packaging protects chocolate, maintains freshness, and conveys brand identity. 

The seminar concluded with a message from SICAP Chairperson, Dr. Floro Cataniag, who underscored the complexity and delight of the chocolate-making journey from bean to box. Attendees left with a deeper appreciation for the meticulous process and the vital importance of packaging in the chocolate industry.
