DTI Laguna Provincial Director Christian Ted O. Tungohan and Pakil Municipal Mayor Vincent L. Soriano discuss the launch of the “Timbangan ng Bayan” initiative in Pakil, Laguna, aimed at promoting fair trade practices and consumer rights.
Laguna, Philippines – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in partnership with Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC), launched the “Timbangan ng Bayan” in Pakil on February 18 to uphold consumer rights and promote fair trade practices.
Held at the New Government Center, Tavera, the event featured a ceremonial signing of acknowledgement and undertaking, followed by the official launch and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The “Timbangan ng Bayan” provides public markets with accessible and accurate weighing scales, allowing consumers to verify product weights and protect themselves from unfair trade practices. This initiative primarily benefits 4th, 5th, and 6th class municipalities across the Philippines.
Among those present at the ceremony were DTI Laguna Provincial Director Christian Ted O. Tungohan, Consumer Protection Division Chief Maria Clara B. Conopio, Trade and Industry Development Specialist Marites V. Pantua, and Senior Business Counsellor Andrea Mae I. Macuha. They were joined by Pakil Municipal Mayor Vincent L. Soriano, Municipal Treasurer Cecilia R. Garcia, and Supply Officer II/Designated License Inspector II Don Kelly A. Fernandez.
Through this partnership, the DTI and RCBC continue to champion transparency and fairness in trade, ensuring that consumers receive the full value for their purchases. ♦
