On March 8, 2020, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Proclamation No. 922 declaring a State of Public Health Emergency throughout the Philippines due to the outbreak of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The said Proclamation necessitates the implementation of Section 6 of Republic Act 7581 or the Price Act as amended by Republic Act 10623, prices of all basic necessities shall be automatically frozen at their prevailing prices for sixty (60) days from the date of declaration or until sooner lifted by the President.

In line with the said Proclamation, all business establishments shall implement the Price Freeze on all Basic Necessities and Prime Commodities (BNPC). Here is the list of BNPCs with their corresponding price:

The Price Act provides that any retailer found selling more than the listed prevailing prices shall be imposed with an administrative fine up to One Million Pesos (P1,000,000.00) and/or maximum of 10-year imprisonment. ♦
