SIQUIJOR – The Department of Trade and Industry Region 7 (DTI-7) successfully hosted its Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP), “You Can BYOB! (Be Your Own Boss)” workshop from September 3 to 6, 2024, in the Province of Siquijor. This hands-on, activity-driven training was designed to equip young participants with essential entrepreneurial skills, empowering them to conceptualize, design, and launch their own businesses by the end of the program.

The workshop was made possible through a partnership between DTI-7 and the local government unit (LGU) of Larena, led by Mayor Cyrus Vincent Calibo, along with the support of Sangguniang Kabataan Municipal Federation of Larena President Johannes Christian Duazo.

A total of 25 youth participants from the Municipality of Larena were carefully selected by LGU Larena to take part in this free, intensive program. The group included eight (8) out-of-school youth (OSY) and seventeen (17) in-school youth, representing a diverse mix of backgrounds and experiences.

Throughout the four-day workshop, participants underwent a rigorous curriculum covering 18 essential business topics, including the fundamentals of business concepts, operations, basic accounting, presentation preparation, and business pitching. They were grouped based on their business interests, with each group guided by a dedicated DTI Master Trainer or Trainer.

The program concluded with all participants successfully completing the training and presenting their group business pitches and Business Model Canvases (BMC). These final presentations showcased their innovative business ideas and newly acquired entrepreneurial skills, demonstrating the potential of the youth to become future business leaders.

DTI-7 is committed to supporting the participants in their entrepreneurial journeys, potentially linking them to flagship programs such as Kapatid Mentor ME (KMME) Online, One Town One Product (OTOP), STARTUPISLAND.PH (SIPH), and the recently relaunched Digital Services Entrepreneurs Advancement Mentoring (DREAM) Program.

In June 2024, DTI-7 has conducted its YEP You Can BYOB! in Asturias, Cebu with 28 participants. Looking ahead, DTI-7 will continue to support youth entrepreneurship with upcoming initiatives, including its Youth Bootcamp for Young Entrepreneurs program later this year. (DTI Siquijor/PR) ♦
