CEBU, November 2024 — DTI Cebu recognized top local government units (LGUs) during its 2024 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) Provincial Awards held at the Golden Prince Hotel & Suites, Cebu City.

The event honored the outstanding accomplishments of LGUs in Cebu, emphasizing their achievements in fostering economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure development, resilience, and innovation. This is after the national CMCI awarding held last August 2024 during the Philippine Creative Cities & Municipalities Competitiveness Congress in Manila.

The CMCI awarding ceremony is an annual event that honors the progress of cities and municipalities in boosting their competitiveness. These awards recognize the ongoing commitment of these LGUs to sustainable development and innovation.

The provincial event celebrated the remarkable achievements of Cebu’s LGUs, highlighting their progress in Innovation, Resiliency, Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, and Infrastructure development. Among the Major Awardees, Danao City secured the 1st place as the Most Improved Component City, while Lapu-Lapu City placed third among the Most Improved Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs). Cebu City earned a notable 10th place in two categories: Most Competitive in Economic Dynamism and Most Competitive in Innovation for HUCs. Other awardees included San Remigio, ranking 7th in Infrastructure among 3rd to 4th Class Municipalities, Ronda, achieving 2nd place in Infrastructure for 5th to 6th Class Municipalities, and Liloan, taking 4th place in Resiliency among 1st to 2nd Class Municipalities. Argao stood out with dual 2nd place finishes in Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights for 1st to 2nd class municipalities.

The event further highlighted the accomplishments of the most improved LGUs across Cebu. In the Component Cities category, Bogo City was recognized for Economic Dynamism, while Naga City (CU) and Carcar City were awarded for Government Efficiency. For the 1st class municipalities, Bantayan excelled in Innovation, while Dalaguete and Consolacion were acknowledged for their achievements in Resiliency. In the 2nd class municipalities category, Tuburan (CU) was awarded for Innovation, and Pinamungajan for Resiliency. Among the 3rd Class Municipalities, Carmen (CU) was recognized for their progress in Innovation, Compostela (CU) for Economic Dynamism, while Badian excelled in Economic Dynamism. For the 4th Class Municipalities, Santa Fe received an award as most improved in Government Efficiency, Madridejos in Innovation, and Aloguinsan in Economic Dynamism. Lastly, in the 5th Class Municipalities category, Pilar (CU) was recognized for Economic Dynamism, Malabuyoc for Government Efficiency, and Samboan for Innovation.

A brief orientation on the CMCI Program and the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act (PCIDA) was also discussed during the event. This aimed to inform LGUs of the significance of the program in promoting local competitiveness and providing awareness of the different creative initiatives that will benefit them.

According to DTI Cebu Provincial Director Rose Mae Quinanola, the success of this year’s CMCI program highlights the significance of the LGUs’ ongoing efforts in attaining growth and development by actively working in building stronger, more resilient local economies while striving for innovation and excellence in governance.
